A total of seven families on Thursday benefited from a donation by the Guyana Relief Council (GRC).
Receiving assistance from the GRC were fire victims Amelia Williams, Eon Springer and Orin Chisholm, as well as Zeta Gouveia, Edith Smith, Agnes Henry and Nills Campbell, families in difficult circumstances.
Also among the lot to receive assistance was Agnes Henry who was brutally chopped by her mentally-ill husband who later committed suicide.
Since the incident which occurred on January 3rd this year, the GRC has been supporting the family financially and in other ways.
The woman who lost an arm during the chopping also has four children to take care of and is unable to work.
At Thursday’s presentation too, President of the Inner Wheel Club, Jennifer Lewis made a donation to the council.
Meanwhile, Administrative Head of the Council, Lynette Carter noted during the presentations to the families that it was the GRC’s mandate to assist families in need whenever the need arose.
The GRC is a non-governmental, charitable organization which crosses all boundaries in catering for persons whose lives have been affected by any form of disaster, man-made or natural.
