The 2007 Berbice Cricket Board/TELENEC limited overs first-division round robin competition commenced Saturday with three first round matches which resulted in wins for Scottsburg United, Albion Community Centre and Blairmont Community Centre.
At Scottsburg, the home team defeated Skeldon Community Centre by 110 runs in a game reduced to 43 overs-a-side because of a late start caused by over night rain.
Batting first, Scottsburg made 299-8 from their allotted overs with Clarence Beresford topscoring with 90.
Peter Grimes, 65, Anthony Bramble, 40, and James Hart 30 were also among the runs.
Fourteen year old leg spinner Clinton Pestano took 3-42 and Gary Phillips 2-46 for Skeldon who fell for 189 in 39 overs.
Sherwin Murray 62 and Victor Pedro 40 were the only batsman who stood up to the bowling of medium pacer Errol Byass 3-12.
Essequibo’s left arm spinner Robert Moore was also among the wickets, taking 2-30 whilst Peter Grimes returned to take 2-35 bowling medium pace.
At Albion, the home team defeated Port Mourant by 57 runs in a game that was reduced to 20-overs-a-side.
Port Mourant won the toss and invited Albion to take first strike and they rattled up 138-6 from 20 overs. Ranga Lachigadu made 74 while off spinner Sameer Khan took 2-15 from two overs for Port Mourant who were 81-6 when their overs ended.
Rajendra Latcha struck 28 while Ganesh Deodat 2-9 and Ramnarine Chattergoon 2-13 were the wicket takers for Albion.
At Blairmont, Bermine lost by seven wickets to the home team in a game that was also reduced due to overnight and early morning rain to 25 overs. Bermine lost the toss and were asked to take first strike by Blairmont who bowled them out for 74 in 24.4 overs. Maxie de Jonge, who can consider himself unlucky not to be included in the Berbice team that lost the recent El Dorado final to Demerara was the only batsman to offer resistance to the Blairmont bowling making 20. Hoolsaran Lalsa 4-13 and Parsram Persaud 2-12 did the damage for the home team who took 17.2 overs to get to 80-3. Karamdat Bissoondial with 42 not out took the fight out of the Bermine team.
The competition will continue this week-end with more round robin matches in the two zones.
