A mother would get 21 days of “rest” after her son who admitted to assaulting her when he appeared at the Blairmont Court was “put away” for that time.
The court heard that on September 25 at Hosanna Street, Rosignol, Suraj Brijlall assaulted his mother Hardai Sooklall.
Police Prosecutor Sergeant Grace Bristol told the court that the defendant went home under the influence of alcohol and started to assault the virtual complainant.
His mother who was present at court told the magistrate that he likes to imbibe alcohol and he was even under the influence while he was at court. She said he was a fitter machinist but did not like to work. She also told the magistrate that she did not want him back in her home. Brijall then told the court, “Whatever me do to me mother, ah beg she apology.”
Before passing the sentence, Magistrate Tejnarine Ramroop asked Sooklall how much rest she needs and she responded, “Sir, I am sick and I need rest every day.”
The magistrate also chided Brijlall for his actions and told him that was not the way to treat his mother.
