Colonels in the Guyana Defence Force have had a hard year. The Director of Protocol in the Office of the President and former aide-de-camp to three presidents was the first to fall. He was removed from his post and reassigned suddenly to the Civil Defence Commission.
Then, in the biggest military purge for decades, four more were swept out of office and offered positions in other branches of the public service and a fresh batch was installed. As might be expected, the President expressed confidence in the new high command, recalling that it was “very fortunate that in the transition we have four very bright young people at the top in leadership of the army
