Kurupung residents are getting “clean and clear natural water” from a state-of-the-art artesian well which was recently dug at about 150 feet below ground.
According to a Govern-ment Information Agency (GINA) press release community representative Anita Maxius said the well has been producing clean water and the next stage of the project is the laying of pipelines followed by connections to homes. This disclosure was made during a meeting held with Minister of Local Government and Regional Development Kellawan Lall.
Lall said Kurupung is rich in diamonds and the prospects look good for more mining activities.
The minister promised residents that a wharf will be built in the area to enhance their livelihood. He also encouraged them to tell him of other difficulties they encounter so that the ministry can work to address them.
In response residents told the minister that they needed farm lands to sustain their community.
Lall then encouraged them to submit a proposal to the ministry.
Kurupung is located at the bottom of the Juranemow Mountain.
