Dear Editor,
It is incumbent on the Minister of Home Affairs, the Commissioner of Police and the Traffic Chief to inform citizens what are their rights relative to minor traffic infractions.
Should persons be arrested, taken to Brickdam police station for hours, have their vehicles impounded, be threatened with being locked up if they cannot provide an arbitrary bail of up to $10,000 while being denied the use of their cell phone to solicit assistance, for parking on Camp Street on a cool evening having a beer after 12 o’clock in the night?
This has the appearance of being part of a plan to harass decent citizens. What is wrong with a ticket for minor traffic infractions? In which part of the world is this nonsense allowed where a policeman leaves his duty on the road to escort the offender to the station to spend time processing a parking violator?
Yours faithfully,
Remus George
