Guyanese cyclist Marlon `Fishy’ Williams finished 18th place in the 14 kilometres first-division Time Trials on the opening day of the Tobago International Cycling Classic on Thursday, according to reports from the twin island republic.
The in-form Williams, riding for Trinidadian Club Rafmon Nelcalfab, started at 7:30.02 and finished at 7:51.20 in the event which attracted 52 riders drawn from around the world.
Williams, who is currently training in Trinidad, had placed second at the Guyana Independence three-stage road race held in May.
The Time Trial was won by German cyclist Alexander Gut who started at 7:19.02 and finished at 7:38:28.6.
Warren McKay, another top Guyanese cyclist representing Team Trek finished 41st overall.
The Tobago International Classic which started on Wednesday and ends tomorrow has also attracted cyclists from Germany, Canada, United States, Australia, Martinique, St. Lucia, Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago.
The five-stage event will end with the Tour of Tobago 120 kilometres race followed by the presentation ceremony at Crown Point Cycling Village.
Tomorrow the riders are billed to take part in the fourth stage – a 100 kilometres circuit race.
The third stage – a 140 kilometres circuit race took place yesterday.
