Trinidad map company impresses PM at GuyExpo

A Trinidad map company on Wednesday presented Prime Minister Samuel Hinds with samples of elaborately designed maps of the different continents of the world after he had demonstrated an interest in them at GuyExpo.

A Government Information Agency (GINA) press release said the maps, produced by Benjamin Charran of Charran Publishing House in Port of Spain, are among the new versions from a large category for sale in the region.

One feature of the maps is that any markings made on them, for planning a route for example, can be erased.

Charran said his company will furnish every school with the maps in keeping with its drive to promote education in the Caribbean. “We believe every school should have a map; not a map where children should stand back and look. We want them to come to the board and be able to write in an interactive fashion,” Charran said.

He said the company aims to publish maps of the Caribbean which highlight petroleum as a natural resource.

The company also prints Spanish versions of the maps to garner support from Spanish-speaking islands in the Caribbean. These too can be accessed for education from the nursery to tertiary levels.
