It was supposed to be a keenly contested affair but the final of the boys’ Under-18 division of the Le Meridian Pegasus Hotel tournament turned into a one sided rout as Anthony Downes defeated Jeremy Miller 6-1, 6-1 on Friday evening at the hotel’s courts. Downes has been in fine form throughout the tournament and Friday evening was no different as he ran away with one of three finals he is down to contest.
In the men’s Over-45 singles final also held on Friday evening Carlos Adams made light work of Rudy Grant winning 6-1, 6-2 while Omar Persaud and Keith Eversley defeated Steve Surujbally and Maxie Fox 4-6, 6-1, 7-5.
In a men’s quarter-final match, favourite Phillip Squires outlasted Ezra Sue Ho, 6-3, 1-6, 6-3. This afternoon in the mixed doubles final Berbicians Godfrey Lowden and Carol Humphrey will come up against top seeds Squires and Shelly Daly. The tournament climaxes tomorrow with the men’s and women’s singles finals and the presentation of prizes to the respective winners.
The men’s singles final will pit Squires against Downs while Daly and Humphrey will contest the women’s singles final.
