West Indies senior team’s captain Ramnaresh Sarwan and captain of the Under-19 team Steven Jacobs rattled up centuries in the latest round of the Demerara Cricket Board’s Neal and Massy limited overs competition yesterday.
Not to be outdone Guyana National Industrial Corpor-ation’s (GNIC) Elton Barker and Deion Ferrier of Malteenoes also recorded centuries. Baker went even further as his 124 against the Police Sports Club (PSC) at the Eve Leary ground was the highest score of the day.
At Eve Leary, GNIC were asked to take first strike against the home team and on the back of Baker’s 124 made 254-8 off their 40 overs.
Baker struck two sixes and 15 fours during his innings and received support from David Dick 56 (6×4 and 3×6) and Shawn De Souza 33 with four boundaries.
Bowling for PSC, Bharrat Mangru took 3-26 and Fitzroy Cullie 2-31.
Police, in reply, were bowled out for 165 off 28 overs with only Reginald Rodrigues, (65 with ten fours) offering resistance to the bowling of Ryan Hercules 3-39, Mark Montforte 2-48, Vishal Mulchand 2-26 and Baker, who returned to take 2-3 for GNIC.

At Bourda, the home team Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) aggregated the highest total of the round, making 320-4 off 40 overs to defeat their guests Transport Sports Club (TSC)by 220 runs.
Guyana captain Ram-naresh Sarwan warmed up for the upcoming KFC regional limited overs tournament with a masterful 119 laced with five sixes and eight fours. He received support from former West Indies and Guyana under-19 captain Leon Johnson who made 60 with eight fours and Ricardo Jadunauth who made an even 50 with six fours. Travis Blyden led the bowling for TSC by taking two of the wickets for 45 runs with R. Merrell and Steven Alves taking one each for 49 and 62 runs respectively.
TSC, in reply, made 90 with C. Persaud 24 and Alves 18 leading the way as none of the remaining batsmen were able to handle the left-arm orthodox bowling of the veteran Neil ‘The Beast’ Mc Garrell who took 6-12.
Ravi Sarwan, younger brother of Ramnaresh and T. Henry took two wickets each for 22 and 33 runs respectively.
Scores: GCC 320-4 TSC 90 all out.
At Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC), the home team batting first, made 279-4 off their 40 overs against Gandhi Youth Organization (GYO) who, in reply were bowled out for 145 off 29.5 overs to lose by 134 runs.
West Indies Under-19 captain for the upcoming KFC regional one-day competition scheduled to commence here next week Wednesday Steven Jacobs stroked his way to a classy 120 which was decorated with eleven fours and three sixes and in partnership with Dion Ferrier who made an unbeaten 100 laced with twelve fours and four maximums, posted over 200 for the third wicket after their team were shakily placed on 22-2.
Carl Bowen took 2-45 bowling for GYO who made 145 off 29.5 overs with only Bowen showing any resistance to the MSC bowlers with 45 which was decorated with two sixes and seven fours.
Bowling for MSC, captain Orin Forde with 3-7, national under-19 off spinner Clive Andries 2-9 and former under-19 fast bowler Jeremiah Harris 2-32 were the main wicket-takers whilst there were a wicket each for Ferrier and D. Vantull for 17 and 30 respectively. Scores MSC 279-4 GYO 145 all out.
