Bowlers stole the spotlight in the latest round of matches in the Georgetown Cricket Association P&P/ Cummings Electrical Raymond Panday Memorial two-day Second Division competition with three ten-wicket hauls being recorded against seven fifties.
A ten-wicket haul by captain Clinton Collins propelled the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) to a ten-wicket victory over Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) in their match at the GNIC ground, Woolford Avenue.
Asked to take first strike after losing the toss, GNIC were bowled out for 135 with Nikeitho Nester and Orlando Fraser being the only batsmen to offer resistance to the GDF bowling by making 23 and 21 respectively. Collins led from the front claiming 4-38 and he received support from Miguel Cort 3-36 and player/coach, former national fast bowler Roderick Lovell who rolled back the years by scalping 2-36.
GDF replied with 281, on the back of Sherwin Mc Almont who made 88 and Claude Jackson 58. The ever reliable Vijay Singh also contributed with the bat by making 26. Orlando Fraser took 4-91 while Cylus Gibson claimed 2-23 bowling for the host who fared better the second time around at the wicket making 205 with Gibson top scoring with 42. The veteran Marvin Fitzalbert made 36 with Marvin Munroe making 30. Collins claimed 6-63 to end with match figures of 10-101 while Lovell also got into the act with 3-58.
Needing to score 60 for victory, GDF calmly made 61 without loss with Mc Almont having a good game with the bat, making an unbeaten 22 while Singh also scored 24 not out.

Police maul DCC
At Eve Leary, the Police Sports Club (PSC) mauled Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) by 138 runs, thanks mainly to the bowling of medium pacer Shahab Mohammed who had match figures of 11-40 despite the efforts of Linden Lyght who also had match figures of 13-128.
Batting first after losing the toss, PSC were scuttled out for 85 with Mohammed (21) as the only batsman to offer resistance to the bowling of medium pacer Linden Lyght who took 6-53 with off spinner Nabindra Persaud (4-17) offering bowling support for DCC who were then skittled out for 83. Garfield Douglas made 35 with Mohammed taking 3-19, Dexter Southwell 3-18 bowling medium pace also and the veteran off spinner Ovid Glasgow 2-5.
PSC fared better in their second innings, making 193 all out with Errol Henry top scoring with 55, receiving valuable support from Troy Benn 40, Lloyd Lyght 25 and Cecil Adams 23. Bowling for DCC, Lyght took 7-75 for match figures of 13-128 and Persaud took 2-24. Required to score 195 to claim a come-from-behind victory, DCC never got close as Mohammed had other ideas in mind when he took 8-21 to lead the bowling route for PSC as they dismantled DCC for 59. He received support from Devon Layne who took the other two wickets that fell for 21 runs as DCC lost by 136 runs.

MSC loses first innings points to GYO
At the Gandhi Youth Organization (GYO) ground, the home team took first innings points from Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) despite a brilliant 83 from Delvon Mc Ewan against the off spin bowling of Ricardo Devers, son of former national under-19 off spinner, journalist Sean Devers.
Mc Ewan received support in the batting from S. Esam who made 34 as MSC were bowled out for 176. Y. A. Persaud supported Devers with 2-36 bowling for GYO who made 269 in reply with Deryck Koulen continuing his run-scoring this season by leading the batting from the front for GYO with 62. Young Kwame Cross braved the sweltering heat in displaying maturity in his batting to make 59 and along with the reliable Vijay Gangaram’s 52, offered considerable support to Koulen. Bowling for MSC E. Charles took 4-85 while Dennis Legay took 2-30 who at their second turn at the wicket were 151-7 with Legay returning to slam an unbeaten 61 and Danny Narayan 32. Medium fast bowler Jamal Taylor braved a knee injury to take 3-23. There was a wicket each for Sookram, Persaud and Devers for 11, 21 and 55 respectively. Devers was declared the Man-of-the-Match.

Ace Warriors continue fine form
Newly-formed Ace Warriors Cricket Club continued their fine form this season when they took first innings points away from a more seasoned Transport Sports Club (TSC). Asked to take first strike after losing the toss, Ace Warriors who lost their first game of the competition to GYO outright and then rebounded to take first innings points from Georgetown Cricket Club in the last round of matches, were led by a classy 72 from Rawle Enmore, his second fifty of the competition, as they totalled 206 all out. Dellon Azore 27 and Steven Harris 24 lent good support to Enmore against the bowling of TSC’s captain Shawn Messiah who claimed 3-26, Rolex Booker 3-40 and Terrence Poole 2-31.
TSC in reply were then bowled out for 108 with only Travis Giddins 24, Damian Ross 17 and Shae Chase 13 getting into double figures as the Ace Warriors bowlers bowled a tidy line and length on a flat batting track. Akeem Mc Kenzie led the bowling, claiming 3-16 with captain Abfzal Gafoor offering him support taking 2-23 with his left arm orthodox spin. There was a wicket each for Sheldon Benjamin, Calvin Roberts, Harris and Enmore for 6,10, 15 and 20 respectively.
Batting a second time, Ace Warriors reached 35-1 when play was called off. Gafoor made 25 while S. Chase took his (Gafoor) wicket for 5.
