As part of its continued efforts to have all eligible cricketers in Georgetown partake in the game if they so desire, the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) in collaboration with Steve’s Jewellery World launched its Over-40 cricket competition at the Demerara Cricket Club pavilion on Tuesday.
Speaking at the short and simple launching ceremony, president of the GCA, Bish Panday, expressed his gratitude to the sponsor who readily agreed to come on board and partner the GCA in another one of its competitions.
“Steve Narine, CEO of Steve’s Jewellery did not hesitate when I approached him with regards to this competition which to my mind is an important step in the game of cricket. Important to the former players who will have the opportunities to not only participate in the game, but also gave back to their clubs whilst acting as mentors to the youngsters of the clubs,’ Panday stated.
Narine also addressed the gathering which included attorney-at-law and president of the Gandhi Youth Organization, Khemraj Ramjattan.
“As the president said, I had no hesitation in coming forward and being a part of the GCA through this competition. The executives of the GCA have been working hard behind the scenes for the good of cricket in Georgetown and to be a part of that is great. I would like to thank them for the splendid work they have been doing and want to encourage them to continue doing same with the same pace and authority they have displayed.”
