Celebrating four years in existence, the management of John Lewis Styles on Wednesday handed out $100,000 cash each to four Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) in recognition of their hard work and dedication towards helping people.
The organizations that received the monetary donations are the Guyana Relief Council, Kids First Fund, NCN Radio’s Needy Children’s Fund and the Ptolemy Reid Rehabilitation Centre.
Following the simple ceremony, the store’s owner John Lewis told Stabroek News that he had donated to these organizations in the past. He said that for their anniversary every year they would hand out donations to one organization.
This year, he said he decided to give all four. Lewis said that he hopes to make this group donation an annual event and hopes to up the group number by one every year.
“We have always been dedicated to helping these four organizations”, he added.
Bibi Samlall and Stacy John represented the Ptolemy Reid centre. John who is confined to a wheelchair told Stabroek News that she is very happy about the donation because it will go a far way towards helping out at the centre.
Meanwhile Doris Lewis who was among the representatives for the Radio Needy’s Children’s Fund said that this money will go towards setting up a secretariat for the fund in the NCN compound.
Yvonne Hinds, the chairperson of the Guyana Relief Council was also present.
