The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) and the PNCR yesterday expressed condolences to the relatives and friends of the ten persons who lost their lives in the horrific Amelia’s Ward, Linden accident on Wednesday evening and also to those who were injured.
In a press release, the PPP expressed concern at the great carnage on the country’s roadways pointing out that many of the accidents taking place are due to speeding. It added that many irresponsible persons also drink and drive making the situation more dangerous. The party urged drivers to obey the traffic laws and to be considerate on the roadways since the country cannot afford to squander its most valuable resources.
The party also called on the police to pay more attention to motorists who speed, particularly those who operate public transportation via mini-buses and hire cars.
Meanwhile, the PNCR said its leader Robert Corbin was expected to visit Linden yesterday afternoon and would have personally conveyed the party’s condolences to those affected. The party urged all road users to use the country’s roads with care since the country can ill afford to lose precious human lives at this stage of development. The party also said it regretted the loss of property and the inconvenience caused by Wednesday night’s fire on Laing Avenue which saw some six homes going up in flames. It stated that its human services department had already visited those affected and as usual has rendered assistance to all affected.
