Dear Editor,
I would like to know when I am going to have my income tax refunds due to me since 1989 to 2006?
In May, 2007 I was in the Inland Revenue Office to uplift a compliance certificate and the clerk told me to sit and wait. While I was waiting my Income Tax Return file was on the desk and I saw a lot of payment vouchers due to me from 1999 to 2006 in my file that I didn’t know about. I questioned the clerk why these vouchers were still here and not sent out to me. She told me that if I need it I should to do a letter requesting my refunds including the years that I think are due to me then I can be paid.
The following day I did the letter as requested and to date I have not heard from them. I called in and I was told that I have to wait until the end of 2007. This does not make sense to me. The Income Tax Department needs to send out letters to inform employees that refunds are there to uplift just like they send out statements just for amounts due to them. Every employee should check the Refunds Dept to know what is due to them otherwise one may never know.
Yours faithfully,
Lolita Hicks
