The venue for the Spanish Invasion boxing card has been shifted from the National Park tarmac to the more crowd friendly Banks DIH Thirst Park ground. This was announced by promoter Carwyn Holland. Holland told Stabroek Sport yesterday that the venue shift followed the ‘coming on board’ of Banks DIH in a ‘major way’ as one of the fight card’s premier sponsors.
Holland said the Thirst Park ground has better facilities and was better suited to a card of this magnitude. The ambiance and lighting should also be ideal for the film crew that will be recording the evening’s proceedings for it to be rebroadcast on the Caribbean Media Corporation’s (CMC) 24 hour channel Caribvision. The card is the first of the Caribbean Boxing Classic feature that will see the region’s premier fighters being showcased to the world. It is an initiative of Holland and the CMC who share the rights to the feature. Meanwhile Leon ‘hurry up’ Moore arrived in the country on Tuesday evening to keep his fight date with Edison Morillo of Santo Domingo.
Morillo and compatriot Raphael Romero who will face Lennox Allen, are scheduled to arrive in the country tonight. Holland has expressed his gratitude to Banks DIH for supporting the card which will be the first step in breaking new ground in local boxing with the international rebroadcast.
