Through superb batting and bowling from opener Sewnarine Chattergoon and fast bowler Esaun Crandon, the Ramnaresh Sarwan-led Guyana KFC team proved too strong for the Rest Team defeating them by 89 runs in their second practice game at the National Stadium, Provid-ence, yesterday.
Chattergoon made a stroked-filled 116 off 145 balls with ten fours as the Guyana KFC team posted 267-7 off their 50 overs.
He received support from Travis Dowlin, who made 37 from 36 balls with four fours. The two posted 85 for the first wicket in 17.2 overs.
Chattergoon reached his hundred off 134 balls and counted 10 fours before he was finally dismissed after surviving two sharp chances.
Bowling for the Rest Team Dion Ferrier took 2-35 while there was a wicket each for Brandon Bess, Leon Johnson, and Steven Jacobs, who led the Rest Team. Asked to score at a rate of 5.34 to win, the Rest Team found the going tough against the new ball attack of Crandon (5-39) and former West Indies fast bowler Reon King.
Crandon ripped through the top order of the Rest Team as none of the batsmen with the exception of Jacobs who made 56 from 84 balls with six fours and Maxie De Jonge, who made 20 from 29 balls with three fours, passed 20. Jacobs, who batted with reassurance during his innings received two chances in consecutive overs off the bowling of Mahendra Nagamootoo. He was dropped at extra cover by Sarwan when he was on 29 and 35 respectively.
Crandon received good bowling support from Deonarine who enjoyed a good day in the field when he took 4-14 from 4.2 overs of off spin whilst Royston Crandon took the other wicket to fall for 24 from six overs.
