Dear Editor,
Global warming and the environment are topical issues today. Al Gore has just won a Nobel Peace prize for his work on saving the planet. Many Guyanese are embracing these issues and have joined the fight to save the environment. While this is not necessarily a bad thing, I would like to cynically add a word of caution.
There are millions of persons living in developing countries, who in their entire lives will not generate half as much pollution as a single flight of the plane which Al Gore spent eight years flying around in as Vice-President of the U.S.A. These are the real heroes of the fight to save the planet, not Al Gore.
Yours faithfully,
Walter Wirtz
