Dear Editor,
Thank you for the coverage you have so aptly given about the wanton destruction of the potable/portable water situation at Salbora, the irresponsible destruction of a main access road and the loss of millions of dollars. On behalf of the Regional Democratic Council Region 8 (Potaro/Siparuni), I wish to express thanks.
However, it is noted that your editorial of Monday August 6, 2007 paragraph 3 attributed the disclosure of “.. .this calamity” to me. This may be so technically, but the disclosure in fact and principle was brought to the attention of the public by the Region 8 Administration, of which I am a servant. I am not authorised to speak on behalf of any other agency, towards this end I say no more. Consequently, it is the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) that took up this matter; consistent with its mandate.
Of course, Council had deliberated on the matter at its last statutory meeting and the Clerk/Regional Executive Officer (REO) was tasked to take the necessary steps to ensure that the welfare of the people of the affected communities was safeguarded. Thus, in essence this matter was brought to the public domain by the Regional Democratic Council Region 8 (Potaro/Siparuni).
Yours faithfully,
Daniel Fraser
Regional Information Officer
Office of the Regional Democratic Council
Region 8 (Potaro/Siparuni)
