An impressive spell of spin bowling from 13-year-old Darell Fredericks led Ascension Community High School to a 57-run victory over Tucville Secondary School in the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB)/Republic Bank Right Start Under-15 Inter Secondary School cricket competition over the week-end.
Batting first, Ascension were dismissed for 115 with Christopher Dick 44 , Travis Walton, 17, and Peter Thomas, 16, the principal scorers.
K. Lewis grabbed 5-26 and S. Cameron 3-22 for Tucville who were in reply, scuttled out for 58. Lewis with 11 was the only batsman to show some resistance to Fredericks who got his scalps in only five overs.
Thomas took the other two wickets to fall for nine runs.
Marian Academy upsets IBC
International Business College (IBC) lost to Marian Academy by three wickets in a North Georgetown zone B fixture that was played at the Police ground on Wednesday. Batting first, IBC made 101 all out off 13 overs. Bowling for Marian Academy, Kiefer Robin took 4-28 from four overs. He received support from Rene Henry 3-14. Tagenarine Chanderpaul, son of Guyana and West Indies middle-order batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul and David Ward took two wickets each.
Marian Academy then knocked off the target of 102 for the loss of seven wickets in 28.5 overs. Chanderpaul and Robin returned with the bat to score 27 and 19 runs respectively whilst Andy Manchan took 3-15 from eight overs.
Meanwhile, in a twist of things, IBC has been disqualified from the competition by the organizers, after it was alleged and confirmed that they were playing over aged players. These allegations were brought against the school by Monar Educational Institute (MEI) who had been beaten by 190 runs by the defaulters on Monday last. MEI at first alleged that five of the students were over the required age limit but when the organisers spoke to a represesentative of the school Mr. Shariram Lall, he confirmed that of the five students, only two, Quacy Caesar and Ricardo Devers, son of former national under-19 off spinner and journalist, Sean Devers, were above the age limit.
As a result, IBC was disqualified from the competition and all their positive results have been reversed.
Dolphin defeats Freeburg by 166 runs
Dolphin Secondary School defeated Freeburg Secondary by 166 runs at Transport Sports Club ground on Monday last.
Dolphin batted first and posted 210 all out in 26 overs with Akeem Jeffrey being the principal scorer with 58.
Kevin Cupidore 3-9 and Seon Jackman 3-36 were the leading wicket takers for Freeburg who were then dismissed for 45 in 12 overs. Jeffrey returned with the ball to claim 6-13 from 3 overs.
Covent Garden continues winning streak
Covent Garden Secondary defeated Providence Secondary School by 35 runs to continue their winning streak in this year’s competition. Batting first, Covent Garden were restricted to 111 in 22.5 overs. Jagdesh Bishun and Rajendra Harripersaud contributed 19 each against the bowling of Kevin Ramnauth, Vickram Muniram and Vickram Ramlall who took three wickets each for 17, 21 and 16 runs respectively bowling for Providence, who were then bowled out for 76 in 14.3 overs.
Imtiaz Ibrihim 13 and Muniram 11 were the principal scorers as Bishun 6-15, Khemraj Singh 2-4 and Mark Anthony 2-14 led the rout with the ball for Covent Garden.
School of Nations loses to Richard Ishmael by 89 runs in Zone A
Richard Ishmael defeated School of the Nations by 89 runs in their game played at the Guyana National Industrial Corporation ground last Tuesday. After taking first strike, Richard Ishmael made 181 all out off 21.2 overs with P. Limm 49, M.Smith 21 and B. Thompson 20 leading the way against the bowling of Bhojnarine Singh who took 4-19 for School of the Nations who were then bowled out for 92 off 22.2 overs.
Singh returned with the bat to score 20 as Smith 3-34 led the bowling rout for Richard Ishmael with Limm and M. Singh taking a wicket each.
David Rose loses to Carmel in Zone C
Carmel Community High School also defeated David Rose Community High in a close encounter that had lots of action at Malteenoes Sports Club ground Thomas Lands in a Zone C fixture. David Rose were asked to take first strike and they were bowled out for 162 in just 20 overs. Jomal Jordan 36 and Addis Bristol 28 led the batting for David Rose against the bowling of Ottelo Duncan 3-23 and Gavin Charles 3-31 from three and five overs respectively, bowling for Carmel who in reply were made to fight for their runs but eventually reached 163-9 from 19 overs. Michael Harry and Raphael Gustave made 33 each whilst Charles returned to hit 28. Akeem Williams 6-36 and Jordan 3-41 led the bowling for David Rose.
Business School loses to St George’s High in Zone D
Batting first, St George’s High School made 125 off 16 overs to defeat Business School by 40 runs in their Zone D clash at the Transport Sports Club ground.
C. Adams 39 and R. Harris 21 were the leading batsmen for St. George’s as Abdool Rohan took 3-25 bowling for Business School who were then bowled out for 85 in 19.4 overs with Rohan returning with the bat to make 22.
Jason Heywood 5-2 from 3 overs was the leading wicket taker for the victors.
