Cleveland Mentore playing with a 16 handicap recorded 40 points to win last Saturday’s Neal and Massy Guyana Group sponsored Golf tournament at the Lusignan Course on a day that saw the youth golfers prevailing over their much senior counterparts.
Twenty-five golfers participated in the tournament.
Cleveland, the brother of former national youth cricketer and golfer, Alfred Mentore, won on a count back from 17-year old promising female player Joaan Deo who also recorded 40 points playing with a 36-handicap.
Third place went to Robert Hanoman with 37 points playing with a 25 handicap.
Clifford Reis, won a special prize for being closest to the pin.
Secretary of the Lusignan Golf Club, John Tracey, thanked Neal and Massy for sponsoring the tournament stating that sponsorship was critical to the survival of the Club. He also urged golfers to support the Club’s fund-raising Greensome tournament and Bar-B-Que slated to take place on October 28 at the Club.
Representing Neal and Massy at the presentation were Brand manager Stuart May, Curt Taylor, Product Development Manager and Sports Coordinator Rodnew Mc Donald.
Meanwhile, another large field is expected to compete in the Guyoil sponsored Stableford tournament billed for Saturday.
Among the golfers expected to be in action are Colin Ming, Melissa Humphrey, Neil Burgess, Patrick Prashad, Raj Sankar, Ian Gouveia, Tracey, B. Deo, the Mentore brothers, Christine Sukhram, and Maurice Solomon.
There will be the usual shotgun start at 12:30 hours.
