Two men accused of robbing a taxi driver of his car were remanded to prison when they appeared at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
According to a police press release, Lloyd Syfox of Foulis, East Coast Demerara (ECD) and Gordon Rajkumar of Golden Grove, ECD answered to charges of robbery under arms and were remanded to prison by the magistrate.
It is alleged that on September 28 at Mosquito Hall, Mahaica, the duo robed Ivor Muir of his motor car. Reports are that Muir was attacked by two men, one of whom was armed with a firearm after they had hired him at the Mahaica market to go to Unity, Mahaica. Police in a press release at the time had stated that “in the vicinity of Mosquito Hall, one of the men wrapped a shoelace around Muir’s neck and began choking him, forcing him to stop the vehicle.
The armed bandit then struck Ivor Muir to his head with the firearm.”
Police had also said that Muir was tied up and placed in the back seat of the vehicle and taken to the Bee Hive Seawall, ECD and thrown out.
On October 2, the car was recovered in a stripped condition at Bachelor’s Adventure, ECD, police said.
Subsequently, parts of the stolen motor vehicle were found on a car belonging to Syfox while other parts were unearthed following searches conducted on a home on the ECD, police said.
The matter was transferred to the Mahaica Magistrate’s Court for today.
