Alika Morgan did not spare a soul as she dominated all of her events to once again qualify for the national secondary schools athletic championships.
Morgan’s position at nationals was never challenged and she will be taking part in four individual events, after winning the 800, 1500 and 3000m events. This will automatically make her eligible to compete in the traditional 10 km road race which will be the first event at this year’s championships.
Morgan may have used this event to tune her self for the first stage of the South American 10km in Suriname, which she will be attending shortly.
Seasoned distance campaigner, Patrick Bobb, won the 1500 and 5000m events just as he did at last year’s meeting. Bobb will advance to meet a worthy adversary in Dennis Horatio of North Georgetown – the defending male Under-20 champion boys for his dominance in the distance events.
Rhodell Alleyne won the U-20 female 100 and 400m and will represent East Georgetown one more time after years of success in the sprint events. In the U-16 category, the middle distance athletes stole the show.
Young Jonathon Fagundes of Road Runners Club put on a sensational show in the U-16 boys’ 800m while club-mate Carlisa Athkinson claimed victories in the girls’ U-16 800m and 1500m.
Shemron Saul won the boys’ U-12 1200m while Siddiqua Shabbazz, also of Road Runners won the girls’U-12 1000m. The boys and girls’ 1500m races in the U-14 category went to Garfield De Doche and Shenelle Small respectively.
