A preliminary inquiry (PI) that was scheduled to commence on Monday at the Blairmont Court over the murder of a fisherman has been put off again, prompting the lawyer for one of the four accused to ask that his client be discharged.
It is alleged that Mark Exteen Massiah, Sean Benjamin, Allan Jailall and Jennifer Moriah murdered 41-year-old Ian Adonis on August 29 at Rosignol.
Relatives found Adonis, a father of six, covered face down in a pool of blood in a street a short distance from his home. He was reportedly drinking with some friends earlier that night.
Police prosecutor, Sergeant Hatty Anthony informed Magistrate Geeta Chandan that the file was sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions for advice. She said she was still not in possession of it and so was not in a position to commence the PI.
Attorney-at-law Joel Persid Edmond, representing Jailall, submitted that it has been close to two months since his client was imprisoned. He argued that the charge should be discharged against his client and the police can bring it again after they obtain the advice.
The matter was adjourned to November 4.
