The Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha says it has organised motorcades to traverse the entire coastal belt in honour of this year’s Deepavali celebrations.
In a press release the Sabha said the central motorcade is scheduled to depart the Shri Krishna Mandir in Campbell-ville at 7 pm. Vehicles are expected to assemble there from 6 pm.
The group said the central motorcade brings together participants from the East Coast and East Bank Demerara, West Demerara and Berbice. It is one of the biggest events in the country which opens Hinduism to a wide cross-section of people through the depictions of gods and goddesses and the portrayal of Hindu dharma in arts, music and dances.
The motorcade roster is as follows: on October 28 motorcades from Crabwood Creek and the Number 36 Village, Upper Corentyne are to meet at the Tagore High School Ground; on November 3 the parade will depart Bush Lot, West Berbice and converge at the Blairmont Sports Complex and on the West Coast Demerara a convoy will leave Parika and Rumzeight (Kaashi Dam) and meet at the Ocean view Mandir Compound.
On November 4 a cavalcade from Number 19 Village, Lonsdale and Gangaram East Berbice will head to New Amsterdam and meet at the Canje Rose Hall Ground. Also a convoy from Bush Lot and Number One Road Central Corentyne, Berbice will converge at the Albion Sports Complex. On the same day a convoy from Sparta and Cullen, Essequibo, will converge at the Anna Regina Community Centre Ground.
On November 8 a cavalcade from Georgetown and the East Coast will leave the Campbellville mandir and proceed to the La Bonne Intention Community Centre Ground for a cultural programme and for the presentation of prizes.
The Sabha said the groups are expected to perform and showcase their talents at the convergence points. It also reminds devotees and the public that alcoholic beverages are prohibited during the fete.
