More than 100 persons benefited from eye care services when the Ministry of Health hosted an outreach clinic at Leguan last week.
A team of health workers led by Minister of Health Dr Leslie Ramsammy and including specialists Dr Mohar Singh Mitra and Dr Sara provided care at the session which was hosted one day after World Sight Day. Chairman Julius Faerber also attended the session.
According to a press release from the Region Three Regional Administration Office, Ramsammy said patients would be tested and those who require surgery would be sent to the New Amsterdam Hospital, the Georgetown Public Hospital or to Cuba. Patients who need spectacles will fill their prescription at the city hospital.
The minister said Leguan doesn’t have access to eye care services but the ministry will ensure that services are provided at a minimum cost and that every person with an eye ailment is treated.
