The Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation (GAPF) will stage its senior powerlifting championships today at the Critchlow Labour College auditorium.
The event starts at 10 am sharp and lifters are advised to be there by 8 am for the weigh-in.
Among the gyms expected to field competitors are Kingsrow Barbell Club, Upper Demerara Barbell Club, Buddy’s Gym, Flex Gym, Studio 2000 and Hardcore Gym of Berbice.
In action today will be two of the best pound-for-pound lifters in Mervyn `Spongy’ Moses and Randolph Morgan. The two will compete in the 181lb category.
The 220lb category could easily be the most competitive section boasting lifters of the likes of Charles Henry of Upper Demerara, Lance ‘The Crane’ Baptiste, Karel Marks of Hardcore Gym and newcomer Dwayne ‘Adrenalin’ Ferdinand of Buddy’s Gym while `Big’ John Edwards will attempt to rule the roost in the heavyweight division.
Other lifters who will be in action are Jermaine Snagg, bodybuilder Bruce Whatley and females Dawn Barker and Kimberley Mars.
