It is with deep disquiet that we continue to read about the carnage on our roads, hear the wailing of those mourning family members and friends, and see the agony caused by a few reckless, irresponsible drivers.
Sadly, the death of the school boy Andre Robertson who was walking across the road when the ‘green man’ traffic light symbol appeared to indicate that pedestrians should cross was a tragedy waiting to happen. It is fallacious to think that the erection of stoplights, without other enforcement mechanisms and penalties for non-compliance, would somehow cause a change in the driving culture.
What we witness daily is that those who were cautious, defensive drivers before continue to be so, and those who were loutish remain true to their status. The clich
