A businessman who allegedly hit down a guard who was crossing the Rupert Craig Highway last Wednesday was yesterday remanded to prison by Principal Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle.
Malcolm Sonaram, 34, a businessman who resides at 188 Garnett Street, Albouystown pleaded not guilty to causing death by dangerous driving when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
It is alleged that on October 17 at Rupert Craig Highway, he drove a jeep with licence plate PGG 431 in a manner dangerous to the public, thereby causing the death of Mohamed Latiff. It was reported that Latiff a security guard who resides at Windsor Forest, West Coast Demerara was hit by a speeding vehicle. He died on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital. He was said to be on his way to work and had just disembarked from a minibus when the accident occurred.
