New-york based Guyanese businessman, Ravi Etwaroo, has unveiled a project to ‘adopt’ young West Indian cricketers.
Etwaroo made this disclosure at the Enmore Community Centre ground on Sunday, when he presented cricket gear to promising, under-19 fast bowler, Jason Dawes; under-19 batsman, Rajendra Chandrika and former under-19 batsman, Gajanand Singh.
The presentation was made during the lunch interval of the Leewards vs West Indies U-19 KFC Cup match.
Jamaican Dawes received a bat and a pair of batting gloves; Gajanand Singh a bat while Chandrika received a bat, a pair of batting gloves and a pair of pads.
Speaking with Stabroek Sport after the presentation, Etwaroo said that his project transcends nationalities, and that it was open-ended, in the sense of not having a time frame. He disclosed that he had already held discussions with Minister of Sport, Dr. Frank Anthony, regarding his plan to ‘adopt’ one school from each region every year and each school would receive cricket gear.
Additionally, he said that he had been discussing with the president of the East Coast Cricket Board, the possibility of providing uniforms for the East Coast first-division team.
Etwaroo also disclosed that he sells about 16-17 different lines of cricket gear, ranging from Gray-Nichols; Matrix; CA; Slazenger,etc.
