City lance corporal denies stealing Home Affairs bike

A City Constabulary Lance Corporal who allegedly sold a motorcycle which he confiscated from a man who had stolen it from a Ministry of Home Affairs employee was yesterday placed on $80,000 bail by Principal Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle.

Mark Lindo, 50, who resides at 88 Hadfield Street, Lodge pleaded not guilty to the charge of simple larceny.

It is alleged that on September 30 at Georgetown he stole one Jialing motorcycle valued at $167,000, property of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Attorney-at-law Tameshwar Sarwan yesterday told the court that his client has worked as a Lance Corporal at the City Council for 15 years. He added that the matter may not go the distance.

Police prosecutor Sherwin Matthews told the court that the virtual complainant is employed at the Ministry of Home Affairs as an Office Assistant and would use the motorcycle to conduct business. He stated that on the day in question the VC went to the Guyana Post Office Corporation (GPOC) and parked the bike in front. Upon his return he discovered it missing and after enquiring he was told that Lindo saw a `junkieโ€™ with the bike and took it away. It appears that Lindo sold the bike, the prosecutor said.

He will return to court on November 8.
