Ten local teams, 2 Barbados clubs and a selection from Washington D.C will attempt to take football fans back in time when the Banks DIH/Claytons Kola Tonic Masters tournament opens tomorrow.
The tournament will feature several past national ball weavers and will be a unique feature given that admission to all games, including the finals is totally free.
The local teams will include Pele Masters, Western Tigers Masters, Twilight Masters and GFC All Stars among others and will showcase players like Terrence Archer, Anthony Stanton. Mikey Layne, Gordon Braithwaite, Carey Jacques, Terrence Nichols, Vibert Butts and Joseph Wilson in a virtual who’s who of former Guyana greats.
The Barbados clubs are Claytons Kola Tonic Notre Dame and Carib Wildey. The thirteen teams will compete for a 400,000 dollar first prize, a 200,000 dollar second prize with the third-placed team getting 100,000 dollars. Games will be played at the GNS, GFC and Thirst Park grounds. The tournament is being hosted by the Claytons Kola Tonic Notre Dame Barbados and Twilight Masters of Guyana.
