Uprising captured the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) Chubby U-13 football competition when they played to a 1-1 draw with Santos yesterday at the Tucville ground.
Leaders Uprsing went into yesterday’s showdown with Santos hot in pursuit and needing a win to claim the crown. For a while it seemed as if Santos would achieve their objective especially after Amuneke Rogers sent them ahead with a 17th minute goal.
But Daren Harris proved to be Uprising’s hero when he equalized in the 56th minute.
Both teams ended the competition unbeaten with Uprising winning seven matches and drawing two to end with 23 points while Santos won six and drew three to finish with 21 points.
In the third-placed play-off Thomas United and Fruta Conquerors played to a 1-1 draw.
The result meant that United finished third with 19 points and Conquerors fourth one point behind.
Luquon Glasgow sent Conquerors into the lead as early as the sixth minute but United salvaged a draw through a 50th minute strike by Romario Andrews.
In the other scheduled encounter Georgetown football Clun edged Renaissance 1-0 through a 70th minute goal from Jaminie Lokum.
Uprising’s Darren harris with 14 goals won the highest goalscorer award while Pernel Schultz of Fruta Conquerors was adjudged the Most valuable Player.
Renaissance was declared the most disciplined team.
