I refer to the letter captioned “Are we ready for the Brazilian invasion” (07.10.26) by Lawrence Avery.
Aren’t Guyanese also guilty of the same practices and even worse in other foreign territories? How often do you hear of Guyanese being sent home from Brazil?
Of course, concerns should definitely be addressed, but the government of the day’s responsibility is to have the manpower to have decisions executed and the reality of life is that bribery can never be eradicated.
Yes! I have traversed the remote interior gold mining locations and I saw honest hard working Guyanese and Brazilians making the best out of the working environment and there are definitely the troublemakers in between, but nothing to talk about or that I couldn’t handle.
No doubt night clubs and the world’s oldest profession, prostitution, are all evident and both Guyanese and Brazilian nationals are involved and it is part of the gold mining package.
No big deal in having foreigners, once they respect and abide by the laws of the country, and when they don’t, they have to accept the penalties just as when we are in their territory.
Don’t let us be unnecessarily harsh to our regional and foreign counterparts for they make contributions in one way or the other.
