The Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana (CIOG) says Fazeel Ferouz was unanimously returned as president when the Central Executive Council (CEC) recently held elections.
In a press release the CIOG said returning officer and Chief Labour Officer Mohamed Akeel declared the results of the elections to the 200 members, from 80 masjids, who attended the session at the CIOG’s headquarters as Thomas Lands.
Akeel also announced the 14 members of the CEC. He also said Al Hajj Sultan Rahaman was appointed deputy president along with 10 regional vice presidents. They are Mohamed Yusuf for CWC-Number 54, Azad Takki of Number 55-Number 18, Shameer K Rajab of Number 19-Mara, Ashton Baksh for Blairmont to Abary, Joseph Mohamed for Dundee – Ogle, Mohamed Kamaludeen from Sophia – Timehri, Syed Bacchus for Patentia to Vreed en Hoop, Goolzar Namdar for Windsor Forest – Parika, Abdool Rafeek for Leguan and Wakenaam and Anwar Ali for the Essequibo Coast and Bartica. These men represent regions one to 10 respectively. Also, Aslim Rahaman was elected treasurer and Tallim Karimullah assistant treasurer.
The CIOG said the Muslim community in Guyana has mandated it to conduct elections at the end of every five years; to present an annual audited financial statement of accounts and to remain apolitical.
