The National Stadium at Providence was yesterday officially handed over to the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport by Minister of Transport and Hydraulics, Robeson Benn, in a brief, simple mid-day ceremony.
In effecting the hand-over, Minister Benn said that he was proud to be handing over a world-class facility.
In his response, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Dr. Frank Anthony, said that he was never in any doubt as to what he termed the “worldclassness” of the facility. Additionally, he stated that completion of the stadium had made possible the accumulation of much experience in managing major events, and added that collaboration between the two entities would continue as other sport facilities leave the drawing board.
Also present at the ceremony were Messrs. Keith Booker, permanent secretary, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport; Balram Balraj, permanent secretary, Ministry of Transport and Hydraulics; and Anthony Xavier, Stadium Manager.
