Minister of Human Services and Social Security Priya Manickchand has said that the government is providing assistance to senior citizens’ homes through the national budget.
The minister was at the time answering questions in the National Assembly posed by PNCR-1G parliamentarian Volda Lawrence who asked what mechanisms were in place to support senior citizens’ homes to defray the high water and electricity costs incurred by the homes.
Meanwhile Minister Shaik Baksh was asked by PNCR-1G parliamentarian Dr John Austin why the Regional Education Officer of Region Six had been re-employed when it was known there were many other available eligible, suitably qualified and experienced persons. The minister said that the re-employment of the officer was a matter for the Public Service Commission and not his ministry.
