A Man-of-the-Match performance from Safraz Esau (40 and 2-21) led West Bank Combined Branch to a comfortable 58-run victory over West Coast Combined in the West Demerara zone final of the Guyana Cricket Board/Republic Bank Right Start Under-15 school cricket competition played at the Cornelia Ida Community Centre ground yesterday.
Taking first strike, West Bank was bowled out for 168 off 36 overs with Esau topscoring with 40. Dianand Roopnarine chipped in with 18 while Rameez Alli bagged 4-25 bowling for West Coast.
Kishan Ramlatchan grabbed 3-12 and Esau 2-21 as West Coast were bundled out for 110 in just 30 overs with Parmesh Rambharose topscoring with 29.
The first and second place trophies were donated by the West Indies Sports Complex, while Esau received the Man-of-the-Match trophy donated by Mr. Digambeer.
In results of matches played recently in the Upper East Bank Demerara Zone, Camille’s Institute defeated Soesdyke Community High by 21 runs; Dora Secondary defeated Hauraruni Secon-dary by seven wickets and Camille’s Institute by 61 runs; Soesdyke defeated Hauraruni by 27 runs; Camille’s defeated Hauraruni by four wickets and Covent Garden lost to Grove Secondary by 27 runs.
Batting first at the Diamond Community Centre ground, Grove Secondary were dismissed for a meagre 61 with Nateram Teekaram and Keon Bailey scoring 23 and 11 respectively.
Harry Rampersaud (4-21), Rajindra Harripersaud (3-12) and Mark Anthony (2-8) were the leading wicket-takers for Covent Garden, who, in reply, were scuttled out for 34 in just 13 overs.
And Camille’s Institute, led by Kishan Persaud’s 5-16 from eight overs defeated Soesdyke Community High School by 21 runs at the Splashmins Ground.
Taking first strike, Camille’s Institute were bowled out for 87 in just 18.2 overs with Mike Beepat (15) and Colyce Jeffrey (13) the principal scorers.
Clarence Paddy and Chowlyn Semple took 4-12 and 3-9 respectively bowling for Soesdyke who were bowled out for 66 from 18.5 overs in their turn at the wicket.
