The Guyana Public Service Union says that a 24% hike in wages is its starting point for discussions with the government this year.
It was responding to a report in yesterday’s Stabroek News which said that it was seeking 14% for 2007 while the government had offered 8%.
The union said that in addition to the 14% it was demanding the additional 10% that should have been paid between 2002 and 2006 to keep pace with inflation.
