Magistrate Fazil Azeez yesterday fined a Vreed-en-Hoop man $15,000 after he admitted walking into a Digicel outlet and threatening to kill the sales representative if he was not refunded for a phone he had previously purchased there.
Ivor Thomas, who is also of the North West, admitted to a charge of threatening behaviour when he appeared at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
According to the facts of the case last Wednesday, at New Road, Vreed-en-Hoop, Thomas made use of threatening language to La Toya Bowman, whereby a breach of the peace was occasioned.
Bowman told the court that she is employed at the Digicel outlet and soon after it had opened that day Thomas walked in and stated that he wanted a refund for his phone which he had purchased there. She said she asked him what the problem was with the phone but he said that he didn’t have a problem; he just wanted to return the phone and get back his money. She said that he threatened to shoot her if this was not done.
Thomas, in admitting to the offence, said he resides at the North West and had wanted money to return home.
He was fined with the alternative of three months imprisonment.
