Defending champions Alpha United, who are in second place in the race for the GFA Cellink Plus Premier League championships will oppose bottom-of-the-table Police this afternoon at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground.
Though having the same amount of points with leader Pele (22 points) Alpha are in second place because of an inferior goal difference and will no doubt use today’s encounter to remedy the situation.
Today’s feature encounter will bring together sixth-placed Guyana Defence Force (GDF) against Santos FC and fireworks are expected between these two teams as the losing team faces relegation.
Steffon David, Seon Brewley and Zevon Atkinson form the core of the GDF lineup which has since shifted their training to the Timehri Rifle Ranges while Santos’s line-up will include Wendell St Hill, Alpha Sylvester and Renault Fraser.
The deadly strike pair of Elton Browne and Andrew Murray Jnr. will lead the Alpha United line-up with support from midfielders Philbert Moffat and Sean Bishop.
If the Lawmen hope to pull off another spectacular upset as they did against Western Tigers, they will have to depend on the reliable combination of Ken Grant and Athio Wallace upfront.
Meanwhile the GFA Supligen Round Robin Knockout Under-20 competition will also continue today with three matches at two different venues. In the first match, Ann’s Grove will go up against worthy opponents in Mocha Champs in a group ‘A’ encounter.
However, prior to that match, Thomas United will engage Western Tigers at the Tucville Ground in another Group ‘A’ match, scheduled to start at 13:00h.
In the second game of the double-header at the Tucville ground, Fruta Conquerors will hope to hold the fort at home when they host Buxton in what should be a heated Group ‘B’ match.
