I am bewildered by the talk of monopolies, their existence and what is needed to guard against them exploiting consumers.
Now GT&T is claimed to be such a monopoly in Guyana. Digicel has been brought into Guyana and we have seen rates fall and more benefits to the consumer. Thanks to Digicel and the Government for this.
Digicel has taken over a number of countries in the Caribbean and they exist in a number of countries beyond, offering “good deals.” Can someone tell me what will happen when Digicel takes over most / all of the Caribbean and all the other players are forced out? Would that be a monopoly? What would happen then? Would fares go up and up?
