The main prize is worthy of a trip to the Lusignan Golf Course this weekend by local golfers who will compete in the annual Le Meridien Pegasus two-day golf tournament which tees off today at noon. This weekend’s tournament, though considered a warm-up event ahead of next weekend’s Smirnoff Guyana Open championships will be just as keenly contested as some 38 golfers have registered, each with the hope of winning the lucrative first prize of a return trip to the United States, compliments of the sponsors.
Last weekend’s winner of the A.H. and L Kissoon Group of companies sponsored tournament, Colin Ming, is expected to be among the starters today.
The field is also expected to include players of the calibre of Imran Khan, Alfred Mentore, Ian Gouveia, Christine Sukhram, Joaan Deo, Ronald Bulkhan, Cleveland Mentore, John Tracey and Patrick Prashad, who have all been showing top form so far this season.
Notable absentee will be Clifford Reis, who is overseas but has been a among the prize winners.
The tournament resumes tomorrow at 08:00.
The runner-up will receive a weekend stay at the Le Meridian Pegasus Hotel.
Meantime, overseas golfers are expected to begin arriving in the country by midweek for the Smirnoff Guyana Open which is being sponsored by Smirnoff Vodka. Golfers are expected from the United States, Canada and Suriname for the two-day championships.
Avanish Persaud and Christine Sukhram are the defending men’s and ladies champions respectively.
