Young Warriors, Blairmont Sports Club, Bermine, Rose Hall Town Windies Sports Bar (RHTWSB), Albion and Port Mourant Cricket Club (PMCC) all registered victories when the second round of matches in the Berbice zone of the Guyana Cricket Board Carib Beer/Pepsi sponsored national first division Twenty/20 cricket competition continued on Thursday in that area.
At Bush Lot, West Berbice the home team hosted and lost to Young Warriors by eight wickets in their match up. After choosing to bat first on winning the toss, West Berbice reached 120-5 from their 20 overs with Artley Bailey 42(2×6; 2×4), Ralph Ogle 29 (2×4) and Keith Fraser 24 (2×4) being the principal batsmen to get amongst the runs against the bowling of Munilall Shivdyal who took 3-23 bowling for Young Warriors.
Young warriors in reply reached 122-2 from 16 overs thanks mainly to former Guyana and West Indies under -19 opener Richard Ramdeen 43(5×4;2×6), Farouk Hussain 36 (1×6;2×4) and Gajanand Singh 23 not out. Ramdeen and Hussain had earlier posted 81 for the first wicket off 11 overs to see their team off to a good start.
At Blairmont, Police failed to arrest their host Blairmont Sports Club and eventually lost by 11 runs in a nail biter. Batting first, the latter reached 151 for the loss of nine wickets at the end of their 20 overs despite an opening partnership of 47 from six overs between Karamdat Bissoondial (32) and Vejai Heeralall (35). After their dismissals, Heeralall Bridgelall (36)and former national under -19 fast bowler Brendon Bess (21) help see their team to a respectable total against the bowling of Michael Newland (3-23), Jason Leitch (2-25) and Jevaughn Stephens (2-27) bowling for Police.
The lawmen faltered in their run chase as they could only muster 140-8 when their overs ran out. Roger Williams 32 was the only batsman to post a reasonable total against the bowling of Bishnarine Basdeo 4-26 and Eon Abel 2-16 who did the damage for Blairmont.
At Canje, Rose Hall, Bermine rebounded from losing their first round game to Young Warriors to defeat home team Rose Hall Community Centre (RHCC) by 17 runs. Trading on an opening partnership worth 103 from nine overs featuring Riaz Kissoon (46) and the inform Maxie De Jonge (42), Bermine reached 162-7 when their overs were bowled. Former Guyana under -19 player Anthony D’Andrade offered much worthy support to the openers with 36. His innings was laced with four sixes as Balram Samaroo (2-17) and Romesh Munna (2-230 led the bowling for RHCC. They in reply reached 146-6 at the end of their 20 overs with Daryl Narine batting through the innings scoring an unbeaten 67 that was decorated with eight fours. Sean Jhetto also contributed with the bat, making 30 in a losing cause. Former Berbice and Guyana under -19 spinner Eugene La Fleur took 2-25 for the victors Bermine.
Rose Hall Town Windies Sports Bar overcame Kildonan Sports Club by 33 runs in their fixture played at the Rose Hall ground. Winning the toss and batting first, the home team made 173-2 off their 20 overs. National opening batsman Royston Crandon continued his fine form with the bat in this competition clobbering his way to 88.
His innings which was decorated with nine fours and four sixes followed up his swashbuckling 98 made against Skeldon in the first round. Crandon and Renwick Batson, who made 32 (3×4) added 120 for the first wicket in 13 overs. Crandon was then joined by Guyana and Berbice middle order batsman, the inform Assad Fudadin (43 not out; 4×4, 2×6) and together they posted 62 runs for the second wicket off five overs. Suresh Mangra 2-26 was the lone successful bowler for Kildonan.
The visitors were then held to 140-9 at the end of 20 overs to lose by 33 runs despite Jaipaul Beepi (61, 8×4; 1×6) and Farouk Drepaul 26. Bowling for RHTWSB off-spinners Andre Percival and Troy Matheison took two wickets each for six and 40 runs respectively.
At the Albion Sports Club, the home team recorded the biggest margin of victory in the round, when they trounced visitors Skeldon Sports Club by 69 runs. Batting first after winning the toss, the host compiled 156-5 with national opener Sewnarine Chattergoon celebrating his call up to the West Indies camp in Barbados with a 28-ball 45 (7×4). Guyana Stanford Twenty/20 player Imran Khan supported Chattergoon well with 42 not out also hitting seven fours. Guyana and West Indies middle order batsman Narsingh Deonarine chipped in with 24 whilst former Guyana and Berbice under-19 off spinner Latchman Persaud took 2-28.
Skeldon in reply were scuttled out for 87in just 19.3 overs as none of their batsmen offered any resistance to the spin trio of captain Deonarine (3-6), Devendra Bishu (3-13) and West Indies under-19 left arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul (2-19).
Scotsburg United lost their second game in a row when visitors Port Mourant Cricket Club (PMCC) defeated them by two wickets in a closely-fought encounter.
Batting first, the hosts were bowled out for 90 with Calvin Cort 38 the top-scorer.
Rajendra Bolo (3-6), Yogindra Harrinarine (2-11) and off-spinner Homchand Pooran (2-2) were the wicket-takers for PMCC who, in reply, crawled to 91-8 in 19.3 overs with Pooran returning to make 49.
Essequibo left-arm orthodox bowler Robert Moore continued his fine bowling form for Scotsburg this season taking 4-18 and off-spinner Michael Kendall 2-14.
