Defending champion Ransford Goodluck has taken the lead and won the first trophy on offer after the opening day of competition in the National Rifle Shooting championships Sunday at the Timehri ranges
Goodluck dropped just one point and tallied 135 points with 18 V-bulls out of a possible 135 points and 27 V-bulls.
He shot a perfect score of 50 with 6 V-bulls at the 300-yard range and then recorded another possible at the 500-yard range with four V-bulls and in the process won the Valladares Trophy. He dropped just one point at 900 yards scoring 49 points with 8 V-bulls.
Claude Duguid is in second position with 131 points with 8 V-bulls. He shot 34-4 at 300 yards, 49-3 at 500 and 48-2 at 900 yards.
Ryan Sampson holds the third position with a total of 129 points with 13 V-bulls, Richard Fields is fourth with 128 and 15 V-bulls , Dane Blair fifth with 128 points and 13 V-bulls, Dylan Fields sixth with 128 with 11 V-bulls followed by Mahendra Persaud with 127 with 12 V-bulls.
According to reports, heavy winds at 900 yards created havoc to some of the shooters and those who were comfortably placed after the first two ranges found themselves trailing including Richard Fields and Persaud.
In the “O” Class Charles Dean is in the lead with 117 points with 7 V-bulls followed by Major Terry Stewart on 117 with 5 V-bulls and Colin Loncke with 113 with 5 V-bulls.
The championships continue on Saturday and end Sunday.
