A double century from Young Warriors all-rounder Paul Wintz, highlighted the final day of the rain-affected third round of matches in the Berbice Cricket Board of Control (BCBC) Isaac Bissoon first-division competition.
At Cumberland, Young Warriors took first innings points from Rose Hall Community Centre (RHCC) in a rain-affected game with Wintz slamming his way to 211 in his team’s 365 all out.
Wintz and number 11 batsman Devendra Ramoutar, (who contributed 6) put on a last wicket partnership of 155 runs as Wintz took complete control of the situation.
Young Warriors resumed on 51-1 in reply to RHCC 231 all out made the previous weekend and stumbled to 210-9 before the last wicket stand saw them to their eventual total.
Wintz’s innings was decorated with 11 fours and 15 sixes and was the first double century of the competition this year.
Wahid Edwards (43) Adrian Haralsingh (39) and Gajanand Singh (37) offered support to Wintz as Balram Samaroo took 6-60 and Sean Jhettoo 2-60 bowling for RHCC.

At Blairmont, the home team lost to Bermine by nine wickets despite the loss of four hours play through rain.
Resuming on 111-2 in reply to Blairmont’s 142, the victors were bowled out for 198 with Anthony D’ Andrade, 42, and Shan Baksh, 23 not out, the principal scorers.
Off-spinner Karamdat Bissoondial took 3-30 and right arm leg-spinner Krisendat Bissoondial 3-51.
Facing a deficit of 56 on first innings, Blairmont began their second innings positively, wiping off the deficit for the loss of only one wicket.
But the Bermine spin pair of off-spinner Stephen Latcha (4-29) and Eugene La Fleur (3-23) took matters into their own hands scuttling out Blairmont for 107.
Only Vejai Heeralall with 31 offered resistance to the Bermine bowling.
Set 52 for victory, Bermine lost Richard Fredericks with their score on seven and D’Andrade, who was struck on the box by former national under-19 fast bowler Brandon Bess and retired hurt, but still managed to reach 52-1 with La Fleur 14 not out and Dane Benny 12 not out guiding them home comfortably. At Skeldon, home team Skeldon Community Centre lost out to Scotsburg United despite taking first innings points. In a bizarre twist, Skeldon, who have been permitted to continue participating in the competition but cannot gain any points for disciplinary reasons, dismissed Scotsburg for 137 as the visitors batted with two men short.
Bowling for Skeldon, Sherwin Murray took 3-57 and Latchman Persaud 2-7.
Berbice under-19 wicket keeper/batsman Anthony Bramble could not resume his innings of 75 not out for his club, as he was attending a Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) under-17 camp.
Missing too was left-arm spinner Robert Moore who was playing for Essequibo in the opening round of the senior Inter-County competition.
Scotsburg, having conceded a first innings lead of 41, dismissed Skeldon for 85 in their second innings with only Victor Pedro, 21, offering resistance to the bowling of off-spinners Michael Kendall (3-23), Imran Jafferally 2-11 and James Hart 2-48.
Asked to score 127 for victory and batting with two players missing, Scotsburg reached 128-5 with Kendall returning with the bat to make an unbeaten 41 whilst Peter Grimes contributed 33.
Bowling for Skeldon, Murray took 2-24 and Pedro 2-27 in a losing cause. Neither Scotsburg nor Skeldon gained any points from the game because of the disciplinary action taken against the latter. Scores: Skeldon 178 and 85 Scotsburg 137 and 128-5.
Hosts Port Mourant Cricket Club (PMCC) lost first innings points to Rose Hall Town Windies Sports Bar (RHTWSB) in another rain-affected game. PMCC on Sunday began their innings in reply to RHTWSB 349 all out and were bowled out for 192. Dillon Samaroo (40), Roopnarine Ramgobin (36) and Rajkumar Budhram (23) were the batsmen to show resistance to the bowling of national opener and part-time spinner Royston Crandon who took 5-41 with fast bowler Leyland Edwards (2-27) and off-spinner Troy Matheison (2-37) lending support.
Despite a first innings lead of 157, RHTWSB refused to enforce the follow-on and opted for batting practice instead but were pegged back on 96-4 at the end of the day’s play with the game fizzling out into a draw.
Delbert Hicks made 23 whilst Matheison scored an unbeaten 23. Roopnarine Ramgobin took 2-28 for PMCC.

At Bush Lot, home team West Berbice resisted arrest from Police to claim first innings points in their drawn rain-affected game. Resuming on 158-5, West Berbice reached 212-9 declared in reply to Police’s first innings score of 130 all out made on the first day. Keith Fraser struck an even 50 whilst Berbice wicket keeper/batsman Quesi Mentore was not out on 42. Bowling for Police, off-spinner Imran Moakan (2-23), fast bowler Jevaughn Stephens (2-50) and left-arm spinner Jason Leitch (2-53) were the principal wicket-takers.With a first innings deficit of 82 runs, Police were struggling on 76-5 in their second innings when rain stopped play at 2:45pm.
Jerry Heyliger made 36 while Anil Solomon claimed 3-13. Scores Police 130 and 76-5 West Berbice 212. Points Police 3 West Berbice 6.
The fourth round of matches in this competition will continue this weekend.
