The Guyana Teachers Union’s (GTU) 47th annual schools athletics, cycling and swimming championships get underway this morning amidst concerns not over the weather but of sponsorship.
Over the next four days, athletes drawn from 15 districts will run, jump, ride and swim their hearts out to earn the status of being the number one athlete among schoolchildren in Guyana.
They will earn trophies and medals for the sweat and hard work over the past few months, for some the past year, but as is customary the event has been affected by the lack of sponsors to support the efforts of the Guyana Teachers Union (GTU).
GTU president Colwyn King said yesterday that there were “still some hiccups
