Just as they did last year, North Georgetown/ District 11, dominated the 40Km Open male cycle race of the 2007 National school’s cycling Championship, which began yesterday morning.
Geron Williams led the North Georgetown sweep as he out sprinted teammates Enzo Mattews and Christopher Holder who battled fiercely for the second place spot, which Mattews narrowly won. Over at the Castalani Pool, the swimming championships got underway with some y highly competitive contests from some of the country’s best swimmers.
Ariel Davis won the girls’ U-50m freestyle with Athena Gaskin and Corletta Cornelius claiming silver and gold respectively.Davis continued her dominance in the 75m freestyle, this time beating Natoya Culpepper and Athena Gaskin in that order. Sheik Amin edged Ronaldo Rodrigues and Kenrick Williams in the 50m boys U-14 freestyle while Serrano Gonzales finished ahead of Tanzell De Freitas and Anil Browne in the 75m boys’ U-14 freestyle event.
Shamal Baksh was the quickest in the boys’ U-10 one length race which earned him victory in the 25m freestyle event with Andrew Simmons and Steven King second and third respectively.Simmons, however, turned the tables on Baksh in the boys’ U-10 50m freestyle event with King in third position.
Niall Roberts was immensely successful in the male under-20 category, normally the play ground of Orlando Mc Rae.
Roberts claimed easy victories in both the male 100m freestyle and the 100-metre butterfly races to complete a dominant performance in this year’s championships.
