Kindly permit me to comment on two issues, which were highlighted in the Tuesday, November 6 edition of the Stabroek News.
The first is an article published on page two captioned, ‘Biscuit’s relatives want more access.’
I am flabbergasted by how Guyanese always complain when things don’t go their way. David Leander called ‘Biscuit’ is an alleged criminal whom, because of his medical condition, has to be hospitalized; in other parts of the world, relatives would not even be allowed to visit such a person in hospital.
However, if ‘Biscuit’ is allowed visitors, it should only be his parents and wife/girlfriend. ‘Biscuit’ and his relatives are fortunate we are living in a democratic country.
My second comment deals with a letter published under the headline ‘Spare parts dealers are exploiting car owners with massive mark ups.’ The writer laments the increasing cost of certain parts for motor vehicles, which are frequently needed because trunkers are constantly in the habit of stealing them from parked vehicles.
Although the practice of stealing car parts is wrong, the issue of pricing is not. The writer clearly does not understand market force. If you have price control in place it is a different matter. However, in Guyana’s case, control depends on demand and supply. If you don’t agree with the price at one business, then go to another where you can find it cheaper.
