A 35-year-old father of six of Friendship, Corentyne had to be rushed to the New Amsterdam on Tuesday afternoon after four persons in the area beat him about his head and body pieces of wood and a steel rod in apparent revenge over a previous matter involving the police.
When this newspaper visited Deonarine Boodhoo at the hospital yesterday he was in severe pain and his right foot was in a cast.
He said that around 4 pm he was riding his bicycle along the dam to go and purchase fish when four persons ran out of a yard and attacked him.
He said they hit him first on his feet and he fell off the bike. They then dealt him a blow to his temple and he fell unconscious. His attackers still continued the beating, he was told.
He said when he regained consciousness he was under his friend’s house with a few persons around him. “Ah ask dem wha happen and me friend said if he din run and save me ah woulda be a dead man,” he said. Boodhoo said the beating apparently stemmed from an “old story” in which one of the attackers had a problem with someone else over a pump and he had given a statement to the police.
Boodhoo said a neighbour rushed him to the NA hospital instead of the Port Mourant institution because “they woulda send me to New Amsterdam in any case so we decide foh go straight there.”
The man who has six children whose ages range from three to 14 years old and with another child on the way, said he was unable to walk and “when me try fuh press on the foot me fall.”
He said the doctor might have to perform surgery on his right leg but was “waiting for the swelling to go down.”
